A Career Marked by Unforgettable Performances

Born on January 17, 1931, in Arkabutla, Mississippi, James Earl Jones always had a passion for performing arts, poetry and suchlike. As a child, he used them to overcome a terrible stutter, eventually becoming one of the most revered actors of his generation. His incredible vocal presence and dramatic ability would eventually make him a household name in Hollywood and Broadway alike.

Mufasa in The Lion King (1994)

In another unforgettable vocal performance, Jones provided the voice of Mufasa, the wise and noble king of Pride Rock, in Disney’s animated classic The Lion King. His portrayal of Mufasa became one of the most memorable performances in the film, giving life to one of Disney’s most beloved characters. Jones reprised the role in the 2019 live-action adaptation, again capturing the gravitas and warmth that made the character so iconic.
